Over the past few weeks I’ve spoken to some people who’ve left good corporate jobs to embark on new adventures – and when checking in I’ve noticed a common theme: compromise. And I don’t like it. I actually don’t mean compromise, which I do quite like. I mean settling. In other words, more than compromising.
Adam - like Ana says below - this and your other earlier blogs resonate so much with what I and no doubt many others are thinking and you write in such a clear and generous way. Thanks a lot for sharing these really excellent and useful insights and good luck to you in making your new ventures a great success this year.
Huw thanks so much for this compliment, made my day. I'm so glad they resonate with you. Love to catch up some time and hear your plans and swap notes...
Another great piece, and very timely. You are reading the thoughts and feelings of many of us, so seeing encouraging words from someone who comes from the same starting point (leaving a good, stable corporate job) has a lot of value, thank you! Please keep it up.
Thanks so much Ana...I think this one seems to have a nerve, as I've had a bunch of emails saying these feelings are shared! Really good to know it's helping - thanks a lot for your comment. And good luck!
Yes, yes, yes! I like those bullet points F. Less fixation on the long term and an honest recognition that shorter chunks of time and focus make more sense - now more than ever. There is a great book - William Bridges Making Sense of Life Changes - which highlights the importance of really LIVING and inhabiting the zone of transition. I think you are doing it really well! And...that coach of yours sounds like she was being a bit tough on you to be honest ; ) x
