After an interview for a job at bp, the hiring manager told me I wasn’t going forward to the next round. The feedback: “You’re too intuitive”. Five years later, I am still staggered that someone might not value this attribute, especially for a pretty senior position. For what is the opposite of “intuitive”? According to Thesaurus.com it’s “calculated, meditated, reasoned, taught”. And that makes sense. I’m not really any of those. And where would you need those – Lawyer? Auditor? Evil Mastermind? Sometimes I think it’s a minor miracle I lasted 16 years.
